- In other words, you would hook your cheapo used Hi8 vcr to the MiniDV camcorder, and press play, and the video would feed to your PC through the MiniDV player, being instantly converted to digital format by the MiniDV camcorder in the process, and saved right to your hard drive. Then just edit it, burn it to DVD, etc.
Hi8 video tapes can be up to 90 minutes in length. We advise customers to put no more than 2 hours of tape on a DVD to maintain the quality. The cost is £20 per Hi8 video tape inc VAT. Transferring 8 mm footage to a computer for editingBecause Video8 and Hi8 are analog video formats, transferring either to computer requires digitization. One method is to feed the video signal to an analog capture card connected to the computer itself.
Another option involves the use of a pass-through adapter which outputs a digitized video signal in the industry standard DV format. Many consumer-level miniDV and Digital8 camcorders have this facility built-in. The DV signal can then be fed into a computer equipped with a firewire port.
A third route is to find a Digital8 camcorder which supports legacy playback of Video8 and Hi8, and which will output a digitized DV signal directly via its firewire port. This will usually yield an improved image quality compared to the previously mentioned methods, and can offer the advantage of direct computer control over the tape transport, which is difficult (may require extra hardware) or impossible for the bridge method mentioned above.
Once on a computer, footage can be edited, processed and transferred to DVD, the Internet, or back to tape.

Have I discussed how my treatment will be paid for? From 1 April 2007, there are three standard charges for NHS dental treatment. The charges are £15.90, £43.60 and £194. The amount you are charged depends on the amount of treatment that you might need in order to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
If you finished your treatment before 1 April 2006, you will have been charged under the old system. These charges were £15.50, £42.40 and £189.
New dental charges£15.90 - this charge includes an examination, diagnosis and preventative care. It also includes X-rays, scale and polish, and planning for further treatment, if necessary. Urgent and out-of-hours care also costs £15.90.
£43.60 - this charge includes all necessary treatment covered by the £15.90 charge, plus additional treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment or extractions.
£194 - this charge includes all necessary treatment covered by the £15.90 and £43.60 charges, plus more complex procedures such as crowns, dentures or bridges.
Under the new charging structure, you only pay one charge even if you need to visit more than once to complete a course of treatment. You can register with a GP by looking up your local GP surgery and giving them your medical card details. If you don't have a medical card you should fill in form GMS1, which should be available at the surgery. Once you've been accepted as a patient, your medical records will be transferred to the new surgery and you'll be sent a new medical card.
There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to register with your chosen GP. For example, the practice may be full or you may live too far away. If this is the case, simply choose another GP in your local area.

If your local centre tells you that they are not able to register you (for example their list of patients is 'full') the do not worry! You are legally entitled to be registered with a GP somewhere in your local area.
If this happens you will need to contact your local Primary Care Trust (PCT). The PCT is the organisation that runs all the medical centres in your area.
A PCT can oblige a medical centre to register you even if their list is 'full'.
